Thugs of Hindostan filmed in Malta
Thugs of Hindostan is an Indian Film shot in Malta, an adventure when the English ruled India. The film was shot in Rinella and Ricasli in Kalkara with the set build by Maltese in a professional manner so that this Bollywood film can be shot. Vijay Krishna Acharya, a renowned international director and scriptwriter, especially in the Indian film industry said that the story is based on ships that were build in Malta. The director said that in the last two years, he spend several months in Malta shooting scenes for the film. Malta offered a unique experience for this film. Th director is in Malta as part of the jury of the first ever festival of Indian films with a mix of Maltese productions. In fact the festival will showcase 26 films, with 20 being Indian. The festival is under Englebert Grech’s direction. “The Malta India Film Festival has the aim to link the Maltese and Indian culture through films. We saw a lot of films filmed in Malta which are leaving a positive economic impact and now also a creative impact.” The Commissioner of the Malta Film Commission Johann Grech said that Bollywood is a famous film industry based in Mumbai India. “In just a year, Malta attracted two films from Bollywood, Thugs of Hindostan and Bharat. TOH used the Malta Film Studios, primarily the water tanks that Malta is famous for and Bharat used Malta as a location and mentioned Malta as Malta.” The Malta India Film Festival is taking place at St James Cavalier between 14th and 16th December.
